The Chicago Bears surprised some with their first pick of the draft last night. The Bears and general manager Ryan Pace selected Notre Dame tight end Cole Kmet at #43. Lots of analysts didn't have much faith in this year's tight end crop but Kmet has been labeled as the top prospect from the tight end pool. Whether you like the pick or not, it's pretty easy to argue that Kmet is the best tight end on the Bears' roster too. Pace explained what they liked in Kmet. "This is really your classic ‘Y' tight end, with the prototypical size and athleticism we look for in the position. He's a big target, natural hands. He's really tough after the catch and he has the strength and temperament we want in the run game. And we feel his blocking is still improving, so there's a lot of upside in that area. With Cole splitting time between baseball and football early in his college career, he's still a young player with a lot of upside. And then you go beyond the physical traits, just the outstanding makeup and the character."
