"Yesterday brought some extremely interesting news in the world of sports and the coronavirus pandemic. United States President Donald Trump held a conference call with commissioners from the NHL, WNBA, MLB, NFL, MLS, WWE, PGA Tour, NBA, UFC, Indy Car, LPGA Tour and the President of the Breeders Cup.Following the conference call the President discussed some of the details during a press conference. Trump revealed that he hopes to get fans back in stadiums by August or September for the suspended sports and added he expects the NFL season to start on time. "They want to get back. They've got to get back.... We want to get back soon, very soon," Trump said. "We have to open our country again."However California Governor Gavin Newsom doesn't believe it's a feasible idea. Not only does he not think the suspended sports will be back by August, he doesn't believe the NFL season will start on time either, at least in his state."I'm not anticipating that happening in this state. Let me tell you why, we've seen the headlines the last couple of days in Asia where they were opening up certain business and now they're starting to roll back those openings because they're starting to see some spread, there's a boomerang. One has to be very cautious here, one has to be careful not to over promise. It's interesting, I have a lot of friends that work in Major League Baseball and in the NFL, they've been asking me - in fact, a well-known athlete just me - a football player - if he expects to come back, I said 'I would move very cautiously in that expectation', so look I'm not here to second guess anybody, but I am here to say this, our decision on that basis, at least here in the state of California, will be determined by our capacity to meet this moment, bend the curve and have the appropriate community surveillance and testing to confidently determine whether that's appropriate and right now I'm just focused on the immediate, but that's not something I anticipate happening in the next few months."
Doesn't sound like anything will be back soon, at least not in California.
