Justin Fields Makes Waves at Bears' Practice, Building Connection with DJ Moore

The Chicago Bears kicked off Phase III of their offseason program this week with a spirited practice at Halas Hall. As the team focused on half-speed run game work and fine-tuning their passing game, all eyes were on quarterback Justin Fields and his developing chemistry with star wide receiver DJ Moore.
Fields and Moore showcased their connection multiple times throughout Tuesday's practice, linking up for five completions in four separate sessions. The highlight of their performance came during a two-minute drill when Fields launched a 45-yard bomb to Moore, who executed a double move down the sideline and hauled in the perfectly placed pass, setting the offense up in the red zone.
Reflecting on their increased rapport, Fields acknowledged the emphasis on involving Moore more in the practice sessions. He explained, "I feel like the plays we had in yesterday, most of them weren't going to him. So we had a lot of one-on-one backside stuff to him, so that was good to get on that same page."
With starting cornerback Jaylon Johnson absent and rookie Tyrique Stevenson still climbing up the depth chart, Moore faced off against Kindle Vildor, Jaylon Jones, Michael Ojemudia, and Greg Stroman Jr. for most of the practice. Although Moore had the upper hand for the majority of the day, a couple of hitch routes were almost intercepted by Ojemudia and Stroman, who made impressive plays to break up the passes.
Nonetheless, the connection between Moore and Fields continued to flourish. On one particular play, Moore's speed and route-running ability allowed him to create separation on a quick slant, leading to a substantial gain after catching the precise throw from Fields. The duo aims to further solidify their chemistry in the coming weeks, with Moore stating, "Going into training camp, probably about two to three days to get back on track where we ended in OTAs."
In addition to the Fields-Moore connection, the Bears had several other noteworthy moments during the practice. Tremaine Edmunds, the team's prominent offseason acquisition at linebacker, intercepted backup quarterback P.J. Walker during the two-minute drill and returned it for a significant gain, igniting a celebration from the defensive unit.
Tight end Cole Kmet also shined, making impressive catches throughout the day, including a strike down the seam from Fields during an 11-on-11 drill. While Fields displayed accuracy for the most part, he did have a couple of notable misses, sailing a throw to Chase Claypool and slightly overthrowing rookie Tyler Scott on a deep pass.
On the defensive side, rookie Gervon Dexter and veteran DeMarcus Walker showcased their skills, delivering standout performances during 11-on-11 drills. Dexter displayed his power and technique, while Walker blew past left guard Alex Leatherwood, showcasing his pass-rushing prowess.
While it's essential to remember that these practices are held without pads, the glimpses of talent and potential from various players are encouraging signs for the Bears' upcoming season. As the team continues their offseason preparations, fans eagerly await the next media viewing session scheduled for Wednesday, May 31.
