He made his NFL debut as a starter in Week 11 of the 2020 campaign, filling in for the injured Teddy Bridgewater. Stay performed admirably, throwing for 258 yards and leading the Panthers to a 20-0 victory over the Detroit Lions.

Following his successful debut, Stay went on to make six more starts for the Panthers, recording 731 passing yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions over six games in the most extensive action of his NFL career during the past season.
