Ryan Poles stated that while the plan is to begin with Justin Fields as the starting quarterback, they must still conduct research on the QB class.
According to recent reports, the Chicago Bears, who hold the first overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, are contemplating trading the pick to a team in need of a quarterback. This would allow Justin Fields to become the team's starting quarterback. General Manager Ryan Poles confirmed during a press conference at the Scouting Combine that they intend to meet with the top quarterback prospects in this year's class, but this doesn't mean they are looking to replace Fields.
Poles clarified that he has not discussed trading Fields with other teams, and the team's current plan is to move forward with him. However, he stressed the importance of conducting due diligence on the new players joining the league this year.
Poles also mentioned that they would only consider selecting a quarterback in the draft if they were impressed beyond measure by a particular prospect. If this doesn't happen, it appears probable that another team will be making the first selection come April.
