After the Bears ugly loss against the Packers in week 1 of the season, Bears legend and Hall of Famer Dan Hampton had some words for Bears safety Eddie Jackson:
"Eddie Jackson is playing like a clown. He's not tackling and is blowing coverages. If Eddie starts on Sunday that tells me you must not be trying to win, because Eddie has become a clown out there."
- Hampton said on the WGN postgame Bears show
Hampton was a member of the Bears from 1979-1990. He stayed as a Bear for his entire career, and will always be remembered as a legend. Hampton finished his career as a 5-time All-Pro, a 4-time Pro Bowler, ranked at number 11 on the 100 greatest Bears of All-Time list, and won the Super Bowl with the team in 1986.
Jackson finished the game with 2 tackles, and only allowed one catch, but he did allow a touchdown, which is what most likely made Hampton so mad. Hampton wanted to see more from Jackson, because right now, he sees him as a "clown."
As revealed by Bears insider Josh Schrock, Jackson was asked about his thoughts about the rant, where he responded with:
"I hear that and, 'Hey, shouts out to Dan Hampton.' I don't know. If that's his opinion on it, that's his opinion on it. We're just going to go out there and like I said, just stay over there. You can talk bad but when things are good, stay on that side."
Jackson seems to be unbothered by the legends comments, and makes sure that once the Bears are playing well, that Hampton leaves his opinions to himself.
