Does King David(Montgomery) Display SHADES of Payton?

Don't shoot me now when I say this, but based on what I have seen so far, our running back David Montgomery displays SHADES of Walter Payton within his running style. Are the guns away? Good!

Am I saying that he is Walter Payton? No! Am I saying that he is as good as Walter Payton, at least at this moment in his young career? No! I am saying that he and Walter share the same traits. Take a look at these.

-Both running backs are associated with high effort runs.

-Both running backs are associated with the ability to break tackles.


-Both Running Backs are associated with great vision to see the hole.

-Both running backs are associated with GREAT agility and balance.

When you look at David Montgomery's highlights, you will see shades of Walter Payton and even though they aren't the same tree, they seem to have similar fruit. In fact, Montgomery has 3732 yards and 24 touchdowns in his first three seasons. When you factor in the 6 missed games, those are some pretty amazing numbers. I did not even mention that he has been playing on very bad offenses with atrocious offensive lines ever since he joined the Bears and he still put up those numbers.

If David Montgomery can be HALF as good as Walter Payton, he will be a GREAT running back! Here is to a GREAT YEAR with hopefully a BETTER offensive line to open holes for him. Oh yeah, we have a fullback as well!
