Rome Odunze has been likened to "Larry Fitzgerald with speed."

During a recent appearance on "The Herd with Colin Cowherd," T.J. Houshmandzadeh, who trains the Chicago Bears' rookie wide receiver, offered effusive praise for Rome Odunze, comparing him to the legendary Larry Fitzgerald.

Colin Cowherd kicked off the conversation by addressing the hype that often surrounds the NFL's most electrifying players, commonly known as "diva receivers." Houshmandzadeh, a former Pro Bowler for the Cincinnati Bengals, was ready to share his insights.

After Cowherd mentioned a message from a former NFL quarterback proclaiming, "He [Odunze] will walk into the NFL — he will be Larry Fitzgerald," Houshmandzadeh responded with a knowing smile.

"Rome is the kind of guy who always does the right thing, not because he has to think about it, but because that's who he is... he's incredibly talented," Houshmandzadeh explained, his smile widening as he endorsed the Fitzgerald comparison.

Houshmandzadeh elaborated further on Odunze's capabilities, stating, "People often ask me who I would compare him to, and honestly, I can't find anyone quite like him. The closest I can think of is Larry Fitzgerald, but Rome brings something extra."

Odunze's collegiate career at Washington was notable. As a junior, he led the Pac-12 in receiving yards with 1,145 and was second in receptions per game. Despite a challenging injury in his final season, he returned to finish the year strong, culminating in his decision to enter the 2024 NFL Draft after a loss in the College Football Playoff championship game.

While acknowledging the Fitzgerald comparison, Houshmandzadeh pointed out what sets Odunze apart: "He's faster, has excellent ball skills, and his quickness is remarkable. And beyond his physical abilities, he's just a genuinely good person."

Echoing Cowherd's sentiments about "diva" behavior among NFL receivers, Houshmandzadeh expressed confidence that Odunze would bring a new level of professionalism and talent to the league.

"He could very well be the best receiver in this draft, which might be the most talented group of receivers we've ever seen," Houshmandzadeh concluded.
