Things were initially on the upswing for Russell Wilson and the Denver Broncos after a rocky start, but unfortunately, they took a turn for the worse.

The Denver Broncos are contemplating the possibility of benching quarterback Russell Wilson for the remainder of the regular season, as reported by Ian Rapoport.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, this decision is aimed at "preserving financial flexibility" for the Broncos, given that $37 million of Wilson's salary is set to become guaranteed in March. In the event of a significant injury, the Broncos might find themselves obligated to pay this amount. NFL Network's Tom Pelissero drew a parallel to a situation the Las Vegas Raiders faced last season when they benched Derek Carr in favor of Jarrett Stidham and later released Carr during the offseason.

Shortly after this consideration, the Broncos took action, informing Wilson that he would be benched, with Jarrett Stidham taking over as the starting quarterback. Wilson had been traded to the Broncos in a blockbuster deal in 2022.

If this marks the end of his season, Wilson's 2023 stats include a completion rate of 66.4%, 3,070 passing yards, 26 touchdowns, eight interceptions, along with 341 rushing yards and three touchdowns.
