The offseason has started for the Seattle Seahawks, and the debates among fans regarding how the Hawks should proceed forward through free agency and the 2023 NFL Draft are well underway. It all starts at the quarterback position for them.

John Schneider, Seattle's GM said this when asked by Ian Furness if he expects to re-sign Geno Smith: "Yeah, we do."

Schneider also repeated what coach Pete Carroll said at the end of the season that the team also hopes to re-sign backup quarterback Drew Lock.

«Yeah we'd love to,» Schneider said. «We think that'd be the ideal situation.»

Smith can be a free agent when the new league year begins on March 15, with players able to begin negotiating with other teams on March 13.

Teams can also begin placing franchise tags on players on Feb. 21, a period that lasts through March 7.

That could be the time when the «process» that Schneider referred to several times could ramp up some if it doesn't earlier.

Seattle was seen by many as a potential suitor to trade up for the first overall pick currently held by the Bears. However, with this report, it basically ends the rumor since they probably won't spend significant draft capital on a quarterback if they intend to re-sign both Smith and Lock.
