Star gymnast Simone Biles has shared her emotional distress stemming from the public's reaction to her husband, Jonathan Owens, admitting he didn't know who she was before they started dating.

Owens, a safety in the NFL who recently moved from the Green Bay Packers to the Chicago Bears, confessed during a 2023 interview on 'The Pivot' podcast that he was unaware of Biles' identity prior to their relationship. He humorously remarked that he considered himself "the catch," reflecting on how Biles drove hours to meet him for the first time.

These comments sparked significant criticism and hostility, which deeply affected Biles. She opened up about her feelings on the 'Call Her Daddy' podcast, as reported by Marca: «He said he was a catch because he is! I thought it was funny initially, but then it started to upset me. I eventually broke down, questioning why people were maligning my husband when they didn't truly know him or his kind nature.»

Highlighting the gap between sports viewership, Biles pointed out that nearly 95% of Americans did not watch the 2021 Olympics, emphasizing that more people skip the games than watch them. Owens, who was in college during Biles' rise to fame, was not an Olympics follower then, though his perspective has changed since.

Despite Biles confirming her husband's statements and pleading for public understanding, backlash persisted. Biles also revealed that Owens recently obtained his first passport to support her at the upcoming 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. She expressed excitement about him experiencing the Olympics firsthand, given his lack of previous international travel and his view on football's global influence.

This situation sheds light on Owens' initial unfamiliarity with Biles, highlighting the diverse worlds of professional sports and personal discovery.
