During his interview yesterday, Ryan Poles mentioned that he wants to bring in more talent at the cornerback position.

At the moment, the only two players who have shown that they deserve some playing time in the future are Jaylon Johnson and Thomas Graham Jr.

Johnson is a great player in my mind. He has demonstrated that he can lock down receivers, make some plays and also involve himself in the run game. I believe the sky is the limit for what he can achieve throughout his career. Graham has much less experience but he still played extremely nicely last year. Many believe he was the surprise of the year on this Bears team.

However, the Bears still need a lot of help because cornerback is one of the positions where you need the most depth at. A player that I truly expect GM Ryan Poles to pursue is CB Xavier Rhodes.

While Rhodes would not be part of the long-term future for the bears, he could provide solid play for a year or two. We have seen so far in free agency the importance that reunions with GMs or coaches have. In fact, almost all of the signings so far from the Bears had played for either Luke Getsy, Matt Eberflus or Ryan Poles.

Xavier Rhodes played with the Colts for the past two seasons , under Matt Eberflus as his defensive coordinator. He would not have to adjust a whole lot since he is already very familiar with the scheme of coach Flus.

Rhodes has had tremendous success during his career. He made 3 pro bowls and 1 first-team all-pro. While his best days might be behind him, he can still play at a very solid level. He could be a great mentor for the young corners in Chicago as well.
