This Bears veteran has to step up if he wants to be back in 2023
We are far enough into the season now that I think we can begin to take a critical look at how this young team has done so far. Fields has excelled in some areas and slipped in others, same with the line and receivers. With the more than probable odds of a losing season, let's take a look at five Bears players that need to step it up.
Cody Whitehair
Cody is a mixed bag, when he's been healthy, he's been solid for us. He hasn't been a superstar, but he's not bad either. Although he's never been bad, he's also never exceeded expectations. That kind of stagnancy might not be tolerated going forward, as the front office wants to see progress.
Only Eddie Jackson is set to make more next year. Whitehair is a potential salary cap casualty in 2023. Slotted to earn $14.1 million in 2023 and another $13.25 million in 2024, Cody Whitehair is replaceable. In fact, it's even possible the Bears can upgrade the position and still pay less. The Bears would be set to save between $5-$10 million next year depending on when they release him, if they do.
