Special teams coordinator believes this will give an edge to the Bears
Special teams is often the way that players towards the back of the roster make the team. It's an important phase of the game, but it's hard work and certainly not glamorous (unless you're Devin Hester). Although they do not have as much notoriety as the offense or defense, the performance of these units has a direct impact on the outcome of the game.
A good special teams unit should also be able to a maintain good field position.
Well, throughout history, the Bears have always been one of the more solid teams on special teams. I expect the same from our new special teams' coordinator Richard Hightower.
Here is what Courtney Cronin reported about the Bears special teams this season and why this could be a solid advantage to have two resourceful kickers.
Must read on LetsBearDown
The Bears have been using both Cairo Santos and Trenton Gill on kickoff, which Richard Hightower views as a competitive advantage for Chicago. Teams won't be able to gameplan for just one kicker, where they expect the ball to go directionally, etc.
