QB Justin Fields shares why he only had 11 pass attempts.
It's safe to say that QB Justin Fields had a rough outing on Sunday Night in Green Bay. He never seemed comfortable after the opening drive and he made a few very questionable decisions. I know that we must not push the panic button yet, since it's only his second game in Luke Getsy,s offense, but it was still alarming to see just how much the offense struggled. It seemed like the only thing working what the ground game, led by RB David Montgomery.
Fields finished the night with 7 of 11 completions for 70 yards. David Montgomery led the offense with 122 rushing yards on 15 carries, averaging 8.1 yards per rush.
"[Offensive coordinator] Luke [Getsy] said before the game that we were gonna run it down their throats," Fields said. "D-Mo (Montgomery), I don't know what he ate today, but he was running the ball crazy. O-line did a great job blocking and he did a great job running."
I get what he is saying, but I would still like to see a few more pass attempts, especially on 2nd and long, when you are trailing in the second half. Of course, you never want to abandon the running game, but you must be able to complete a few downfield passes in order to have success in the league.
