Nick Foles trade is becoming more likely
Mike Garafolo reported a very interesting fact about Nick Foles this afternoon. He said that Foles is due a roster bonus tomorrow. It's a $4m bonus and it's fully guaranteed so he is going to get it no matter what. However it's half of what he's owed in 2022, so this means that he surely becomes more attractive to teams in a potential trade. A potential team that would trade for him would not have to pay him as much after the bonus.
We have said on multiple occasions that it would be wise for Ryan Poles to try to trade Foles this off-season. It's not that he is no longer a fine quarterback it's because he does not fit the system we expect Luke Getsy to implement. In an ideal world, you would like your backup quarterback to have the same style as your starter, or close to it. This is important because if Fields goes down, you don't have to change your whole playbook completely mid-game. Foles and Justin Fields could not be more different from each other!
I think it would be a wise move for the Bears to select a young, promising quarterback later in the draft that could compete for the backup job. If you could swap Foles for a draft pick as well, it would be a bonus!
