NFL Quarterback Told Team To Bench Him & Give Other QB His First Career Start In Awesome Gesture
In the initial reports earlier this week, we received the news that Heinicke was supposed to play the whole game for the Washington Commanders. That changed, though, when Heinicke told the coaches that it should be rookie Sam Howell instead, as Heinkicke felt that Howell deserved to play a complete game.
Howell was Washington's fifth-round pick in last year's draft. He's yet to appear in a game this season, which would make Sunday his NFL debut.
The moves come one week after the Commanders gambled that Wentz's return as the starter could spark an offense that had struggled to score. But that failed, as Cleveland beat Washington 24-10, and the Commanders managed only 260 yards -- their third-lowest total of the season. Wentz threw for just 124 yards and was intercepted three times, and the Commanders (7-8-1) were eliminated from playoff contention.
Here is what Fowler tweeted. This is an incredible act from the veteran QB.
