Here is how much the Bears freed up with the Khalil Mack
My first question when I heard about the trade was: What will the financial side look like. Well, great news Bears fans. The Chargers are taking on all of Mack's contract. There are three years left for $63.9M. The Bears move on with the picks. Khalil Mack was supposed to have a cap hit of over $28 million in 2022...According to overthecap.com, the bears will free up over $6,1 million next year
This means that the Bears will not have any dead money in 2023. The Bears could've paid some of the contract to increase the draft return but Poles didn't want to go that way. For those disappointed in the return for Mack compared to Von Miller, the Broncos paid $9 million of the remaining $9.6 million on his deal so they could get in return better picks.
This is really great news for the Bears because this will allow Ryan Poles to have even more cap room for the upcoming free agency period. With many holes left to be filled on the roster, this will help greatly.
