HC Matt Eberlfus expects Justin Fields to take a HUGE leap next season!
The Bears have a lot of bad history with disappointing QB development under past head coaches (aka Matt Nagy). However, there seems to be a slight glimmer of hope under the new coaching staff paired with Justin Fields. While Matt Eberlfus was not the coach that drafted Justin Fields, he will be the one that has the task of helping him reach his full potential.
Eberflus was interviewed by Peter King and the subject of Fields came on. He was asked whether he felt Justin could handle all the responsibilities of being an NFL quarterback:
"There's no doubt. There is no doubt. I feel very confident in his confidence and his ability to lead the football team. But, I also feel that, when I was there, I could feel the presence of him and his ability to grow. Because people say this and I've known it to be true with these NFL guys is that I've seen the biggest growth between rookie year and second year. You look at all the QBs that have come up lately, the first or second year, it's been a big growth spurt for those guys and we're expecting that this year."
I like what he said and I really love the amount of confidence and commitment he shows to Justin Fields. This is key in order to let the kid grow under as a player and as a leader.
