BREAKING: Mike Evans Likely in Final Season with Buccaneers, Emerges as Trade Deadline Target Amid Contract Stalemate
As Tom Brady's era in Tampa Bay has ended, it appears that Mike Evans' tenure with the Buccaneers could also be reaching its final chapter. Reports indicate that Evans and his representatives have set a "Week 1 deadline" for contract negotiations with the team. Without a new deal, the star receiver would become a free agent in 2024.
Evans, who is 30, is reportedly seeking a contract in line with Cooper Kupp's three-year, $80.1-million agreement. Currently, Evans is in the last year of his five-year, $82.5-million contract signed in 2018. The four-time Pro Bowler holds an NFL record with nine consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons.
Last year, Evans caught 77 passes for 1,124 yards and six touchdowns. Alongside Chris Godwin, he leads a Buccaneers receiving group that aims to excel with new quarterback Baker Mayfield.
If the Bucs struggle out of the gate, trade rumors around Evans could heat up. A potential trade could offer Tampa Bay valuable draft capital, and a move to a team like the Jets could be on the cards.
