Bears' mock draft envisions quarterback Justin Fields being equipped with weapons such as Tee Higgins and others.
With the 2023 NFL salary cap determined, the offseason officially commences in the Windy City, where the Chicago Bears hold a commanding lead in cap space among all teams in the league and possess the coveted first overall pick in this year's draft. Ryan Poles, the Bears' General Manager, is expected to trade the selection and affirm his commitment to Justin Fields as his franchise quarterback.
In this recent mock draft done by FanSided, the Bears opt to trade the number one pick, allowing them to execute bold moves. In the first move, they trade the pick within their division, a calculated risk, which would mean they would face Bryce Young for the years to come. However, the returns outweigh the risk, particularly with what is to come next. The Bears negotiate a significant deal with Detroit and promptly make another draft night trade to obtain Tee Higgins from the Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals, burdened by the responsibility to pay both Ja'Marr Chase and Joe Burrow, wisely opt for a substantial amount of draft capital for the 24-year-old wide receiver.
Here are the trades:
BEARS GET:
NO. 6 PICK, NO. 18 PICK,
2023 2ND ROUND PICK (NO. 48),
2024 2ND ROUND PICK, 2024 3RD ROUND PICK
LIONS GET:
NO. 1 PICK
BENGALS GET:
2023 2ND ROUND PICK (NO. 48),
2023 6TH ROUND PICK (NO. 199),
2023 7TH ROUND PICK (NO. 220),
2024 2ND ROUND PICK, 2024 4TH ROUND PICK
BEARS GET:
WR TEE HIGGINS
The Bears surrender multiple picks, yet manage to preserve their first-round selection. In exchange for the 6-foot-3 Higgins, they trade two seconds, a fourth, a sixth, and a seventh. Higgins instantly becomes the go-to alpha receiver that Justin Fields has long sought.
The time has come for Ryan Poles to demonstrate his leadership and build a winning team. Let the work begin.
