In support of the Bill Walsh NFL Minority Coaching Fellowship, the Bears have brought in six new assistant coaches to help give minority coaches a pipeline into the league.
This program has yielded coaches like Lovie Smith, and Mike Tomlin, as well as current Bears wide receivers coach Tyke Tolbert.
These assistants will stick around through training camp, and all but one come from small college programs so this is their best chance to get noticed.
«THE SIX COACHES JOINING THE BEARS ARE ROOSEVELT WILLIAMS (HARDIN-SIMMONS), DOMINIC ANDERSON (FAYETTEVILLE STATE), NA'SHAN GODDARD (SOUTH CAROLINA STATE), KEFENSE HYNSON (OREGON STATE), KEN MERCHANT (PACE UNIVERSITY), AND MILTON PATTERSON (FLORIDA A&M).»
The current standout is Dominic Anderson, whose defense at Fayetteville State was extremely successful last year. His team had 10 interceptions in 10 games with 44 sacks and led to the drafting of Joshua Williams by the Chiefs. Whether these coaches stick with the Bears or not it is good to see them getting a chance.
