A Chiefs Supporter Rescued the Life of an Eagles Fan, and Now They're Both On Their Way to the Super Bowl
Sports have a remarkable ability to bring people together, but this particular story is quite distinctive from the others.
Billy Welsh, a fan of the Philadelphia Eagles, will sit alongside John Gladwell, a supporter of the Kansas City Chiefs, at Sunday's game. This unlikely pairing is a result of Gladwell's donation of a kidney to Welsh over two years ago. The two men have known each other for nearly two decades, having served together in the Marines. It all started when Welsh posted a plea for a kidney on Facebook, to which Gladwell responded after being tested and found to be a compatible donor.
The transplant procedure lasted for ten hours at a hospital in Philadelphia. Gladwell recalls his motivation for donating, saying, "I wasn't going to let his son grow up without his dad being there for everything." He shared this sentiment with NBC's TODAY show.
