8 Players the Bears let go of too Soon
We trade, release, and pick up players all the time, but some of the deals we make may not end up working out for us in the long run. With 100 years under our belt, the bears have made some good decisions and some more questionable ones. I have put together a list of my top eight players the bears let go of too soon, and here is number eight.
Rosevelt ColvinSelected in the fourth round of the 1999 NFL Draft, Colvin got off to a running start when he joined the Bears out of Purdue. He had five sacks in his first two seasons, then exploded in 2001. He had 69 tackles, 10.5 sacks, six pass deflections, two interceptions, and three forced fumbles in 16 games. After the 2001 season, he tested the waters as a free agent and ended up signing with the New England Patriots. Although he spent his first season on the bench with an injury, he recorded 20.5 sacks from 2004-2006.
He went on to win two Super Bowls with the Patriots, proving himself a valuable asset to the team. Chicago on the other hand ended up drafting Lance Briggs, who went on to play alongside Urlacher and become a cornerstone of our defense. Things could have been interesting if Colvin had stayed, but then we might not have had Briggs. So who's to say really, all in all I still wonder what if, and that's why Colvin takes the number eight spot on my list.
