23-Year Old Chicago Blackhawks Goaltender Breaks Blackhawks Franchise Record
The Chicago Blackhawks began playing hockey 97 years ago, making it surprising that players can still set franchise records. It's noteworthy that no Hawks goaltender had won more than two games in a row to start their NHL career until Jaxson Stauber.
Stauber won his first three NHL appearances, making him the first goaltender in franchise history to achieve this feat. He achieved this with a 23 save performance in a 4-3 overtime win over the Arizona Coyotes at the United Center.
Although Stauber allowed a goal on the game's first shot and two in the first 12:34, his team rallied with three goals over the next two periods to take a 3-2 lead. After the Coyotes tied it with three minutes remaining, the Hawks rallied from a multi-goal deficit to secure their sixth come-from-behind victory this season, tied for the most in the league with the Canucks, Devils, and Ducks.
In his three starts, the 23-year-old rookie has a 2.29 goals-against average and .926 save percentage, impressive statistics for any goalie. With the future in net uncertain, Stauber has earned the opportunity for more playing time at the NHL level.
