Why Blake Martinez Retiring from the NFL is one of the Best Business Moves of All Time
When linebacker Blake Martinez announced his retirement in November of the 2022 season, fans and viewers all over were shocked. At just 28 years old, with no history of head injuries, viewers were confused about this early retirement. It seemed to be that his ACL injury from the 2021 season played a part in the retirement, but it is mainly due to a new business venture.
It was reported that Martinez retired after selling a rare Pokémon card. He has since taken this business venture seriously, and has created a large income from it. Last summer, he opened up his own company for the card business, called "Blake's Breaks." He has since made $11.5M in Revenue.
Martinez told The Athletic's Zak Keefer about why he stepped away from the game at such a young age:
"I just asked myself, do I want to keep starting over from ground zero with football, and keep destroying my body, or do I want to start over from ground zero here, and do something I can actually sustain for a long time"
