Top-Tier Defensive Back Makes Unprecedented Statement
A recent ESPN poll garnered insights from executives, players, and coaches to single out the top ten talents in each of 11 NFL positions. The poll crowned Minkah Fitzpatrick of the Pittsburgh Steelers as the best, followed closely by the likes of Derwin James from the Los Angeles Chargers, Justin Simmons of the Denver Broncos, Budda Baker from the Arizona Cardinals, and Jevon Holland representing the Miami Dolphins. These stars are widely recognized as the cream of the crop in terms of NFL's back-end defense.
Interestingly, though, the list is missing a familiar name - Eddie Jackson of the Chicago Bears. Just a few seasons ago, Jackson's presence would've been a given. The two-time Pro Bowler (2018, 2019) and a first-team All-Pro in 2018, has a remarkable resume. Yet, at 29, Jackson is now seen in a different light. Despite receiving some recognition, he's no longer viewed as a top-tier player in his position.
However, Jackson's self-confidence remains unscathed, even bordering on audacity for some. His recent statement could be seen as wildly overconfident, but to him, it's simply the truth. After penning a contract extension post the 2019 season, Jackson became the league's highest-paid safety at that time. His performance hasn't quite matched up to that standard in the past three years, but he is convinced of a resurgence this season.
Jackson boldly declared, "I'm going to have one of the best seasons ever played by a safety!" So, it seems, he is ready to reclaim his past glory and redefine his position in the NFL.
