The most recent development regarding Jonathan Toews' health is frightening.
The captain of the Blackhawks, Jonathan Toews, has been noticeably absent from the team for the past few weeks due to a non-Covid related illness. Given Toews's previous scary health issue that nearly ended his career, there was immediate cause for concern. However, while Toews has not been on the ice, he has been making progress towards rejoining the Blackhawks soon.
Toews did not accompany the team on their recent road trip, which means that he will miss at least the next two games when they visit Toronto and his old friend Alex DeBrincat in Ottawa on Friday. Toews will be out for a total of 6 games and has already missed 8 practices, with more to come. Toews's absence has been noticeable in the lineup, particularly in the faceoff circle, but Jason Dickinson has stepped up nicely to fill his role. Hopefully, Toews can return to the ice when the Blackhawks return and rejoin the starting lineup for their last three home games ahead of the March 3rd trade deadline.
