REPORT: Packers' Star RB Takes A Paycut To Remain With Green Bay
Aaron Jones will remain with the Green Bay Packers after agreeing to a reduced salary for the 2023 season, according to his agents Drew Rosenhaus and Ryan Matha. The running back, who was originally set to earn $16 million, will instead receive a total pay of $11 million for the upcoming season, with a $5 million reduction in exchange for a signing bonus of $8.52 million. This restructuring significantly lowers his salary-cap figure, which was previously $20.013 million.
Jones will have earned a total of $31 million since 2021, making him the second highest-paid running back after Christian McCaffrey. Despite the restructure, Jones will still have two years remaining on his four-year, $48 million contract.
Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst has praised Jones for his consistency and leadership and expects him to continue contributing to the team. Additionally, the Packers are considering restructuring left tackle David Bakhtiari's contract as they try to make room for other players within the salary cap.
