When the Bears signed QB Trevor Siemian last week on a two-year deal, we knew this probably meant that he would get the backup spot. This also implies that veteran QB Nick Foles should be on his way out of town.
Thanks to the great Ryan Pace, Foles carries a cap hit of over $10 million for next season. So, what little value he had is now even smaller. I think the Bears would jump on any offer they receive if it includes swapping Foles for any kind of draft pick. Poles would be thrilled to get rid of his contract in exchange for a 6th or a 7th round draft selection.
It's not that Foles is so bad, it's that he does not fit with what the Bears are trying to build for the future. He is 33 years old and he does not fit the scheme of an athletic quarterback at all. While Siemian is no Micheal Vick either, he can move around the pocket a lot more than Foles. I also believe he is just a better quarterback at the moment.
One thing is certain, you can't be a successful team and have a 3rd string quarterback getting paid over $10 million annually, this makes no sense.
