"Minnesota Vikings Hint at Another Shocking Offseason Move, Cutting Yet Another Superstar Player"
The Minnesota Vikings continue their offseason shakeup by reportedly releasing veteran safety Harrison Smith. This comes just a day after the team let go of wide receiver Adam Thielen. Insider Darren Smith claims that the team is not done yet, and more cuts could be on the horizon.
Smith has been a valuable player for the Vikings since being drafted in 2012. He has started in 158 games and has been to six Pro Bowls, earning an AP first team All-Pro in 2017. In the 2022 season, he had 85 total tackles, five interceptions, and a forced fumble in 14 games.
However, at 34 years old, Smith carries a cap hit of over $19 million, making him a target for release. The team could potentially try to restructure his deal to lower the cap hit, but if an agreement cannot be reached, the cut seems inevitable.
If released, the Vikings would save over $7 million in cap space, providing them with more flexibility in building their roster. With the Vikings continuing to shed players and cap space, it remains to be seen who will be the next casualty of their offseason overhaul.
