Justin Fields remembers Dwayne Haskins and the Impact he had at Ohio State
Last week, the NFL world was shocked and saddened by the news of the tragic death of Dwayne Haskins. He was only 24 years old.
Most people wouldn't think that Bears' QB Justin Fields would have a big connection with Haskins. However, this could not be further from the truth. Fields spoke with Albert Breer of The MMQB, and he revealed that Haskins played a central role in convincing him to attend Ohio State:
«I'm not gonna lie, he kind of did start something,» Fields said while driving home from the Bears' offseason program on Tuesday. «You can say he did. We'll never know if I'd have gone to Ohio State if he wasn't there, but you can give him credit for starting something. I was thinking about that the other day, and I saw something onlinebefore him, there really wasn't an elite passer at Ohio State for years before. I think he started that elite passing group with, of course, him, me and now C.J. [Stroud].»
Fields then mentions that Haskins was always there for him, that he always made sure Fields "was straight" and that he didn't have any problems. He was a real mentor to him.
Again, Rest in Peace Dwayne Haskins.
