Former Green Bay Packers Star Is Asking The NFL To Hire Him As Replay Official For Their New Roughing The Passer Rule
The NFL has taken a lot of heat for how roughing the passer has been called throughout the 2022 season. Well, former NFL linebacker Clay Matthews has even volunteered to help the league sort out all potential roughing-the-passer penalties.
Earlier in the week, NFL executive vice president Troy Vincent told reporters that one of the topics discussed at an owners meeting Wednesday morning was a video review process for hitting the quarterback and defenseless players. Though such a dramatic rule change will likely receive some push back, the league has already found a willing participant in the former Packers' star edge rusher.
While Clay Matthews obviously has no previous experience as a referee at any level, it's probably safe to say that most fans would rather have him making the decisions about the roughing the passer calls. Especially with the way the league has been calling the penalty lately.
