Rewritten: Former Detroit Lions player Stanley Wilson Jr. has tragically passed away at the young age of 40.
Reports indicate that Wilson Jr. collapsed at a mental health facility earlier this month and was pronounced dead. He had been in police custody after being arrested for vandalism in August and was transferred from county jail to the Metropolitan State Hospital in Los Angeles County on February 1. However, during intake at the facility, he collapsed and died.
Wilson Jr., who was a third-round pick in 2005, played three seasons with the Lions and recorded 89 tackles, eight passes defensed, and a forced fumble. His football career came to an end due to an Achilles injury during the 2008 preseason. Over the years, he had several run-ins with the law due to his mental health issues.
Wilson Jr. is the son of former Cincinnati Bengals running back Stanley Wilson. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family during this difficult time.
