Earlier today, the Houston Texans announced that Lovie Smith will be their next head coach.

Former Miami Dolphins coach Brian Flores dropped a bombshell last week when he filed a lawsuit accusing all 32 NFL teams of racial discrimination. At that moment, the NFL only had one black coach, Mike Tomlin (Pittsburgh Steelers). The NFL's commissioner, Roger Goodell, wrote a memo to the NFL teams that the results of this hiring cycle have been "unacceptable" in terms of diversity. This news will probably help the cause.

Lovie Smith spent over 9 years with the Bears. He had a pretty decent track record in Chicago. He had a win-loss record of 81-63 in the regular season and he won 3 playoffs games. His team also reached the super bowl in 2006. He also spent 5 seasons as the head coach at the University of Illinois.

I think the former Bears head coach could be a great hire. He will have a lot of work to do since he is now the coach of one of the worst teams in football. We wish him the best of luck.
