Buccaneers Target Former No. 1 Overall Pick as Tom Brady's Replacement
After Tom Brady announced his retirement, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are in search of a new quarterback to fill his shoes. While there have been rumors of a possible comeback, none of them have suggested a return to the Bucs. The Dolphins were rumored to be a potential destination for Brady, but they recently solidified their QB position, shutting down those rumors.
According to sources from the NFL Network, the Buccaneers have set their sights on Baker Mayfield to be their next starting quarterback. Mayfield played for both the Carolina Panthers and the Los Angeles Rams in the previous season, completing just 57.8% of his passes in seven games for the Panthers before being released. However, he showed improvement upon signing with the Rams, throwing for 850 yards and four touchdowns on 63.6% passing in five games for the former Super Bowl champions.
If the move comes to fruition, Mayfield would be the only quarterback on the Bucs' roster with starting experience. Reports suggest that a deal between the two parties could be reached as early as this week.
