Add Chicago Bears legendary middle linebacker Brian Urlacher to the growing list of individuals advocating for the team to select USC quarterback Caleb Williams with the coveted No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming draft.

Urlacher, a Hall of Famer, voiced his perspective during an appearance on the Zach Gelb show on CBS Sports Radio.
While Urlacher acknowledged that quarterback Justin Fields displayed improvement towards the end of the season, he emphasized that, after three years of uncertainty surrounding Fields as the long-term solution to the Bears' longstanding quarterback dilemma, it may be time for the team to explore other options.
The Bears Legend also reflected on last year's draft, suggesting that the Bears should have chosen C.J. Stroud instead. Urlacher revealed his preference for Stroud over Bryce Young, although he acknowledged that hindsight makes it easier to make such judgments, especially with Stroud performing well and Young encountering challenges.
Urlacher has previously commended Justin Fields for his running abilities but expressed concerns about his proficiency in the pocket. It's worth noting that former teammate Alex Brown advocates moving on from Fields, while Lance Briggs supports keeping him within the team.
While everyone has their opinions, it's essential to remember that the ultimate decision lies with General Manager Ryan Poles. Poles has indicated that he will maintain an open-minded approach to the quarterback position. Whether it's Caleb Williams or North Carolina's Drake Maye, any quarterback will need to impress Poles significantly to earn the No. 1 pick.
The franchise has not yet revealed its preferred direction, as evidenced by the team's social media posts highlighting Justin Fields' achievements.
The recent appointment of Shane Waldron as offensive coordinator adds an intriguing dimension. Waldron has a track record of revitalizing quarterbacks' careers, as seen with Geno Smith. His system is also known for being rookie-friendly, which could benefit a newcomer like Caleb Williams.
It's crucial for both Team Justin and Team Caleb not to get overly excited at this stage. Ryan Poles has several months ahead to thoroughly evaluate prospects, interview Williams, and conduct comprehensive background assessments. Brian Urlacher's input is just one of many opinions, even though he remains a legendary figure in the Chicago Bears' history.
