Brian Urlacher Called Phil Emery a «Weirdo» Who Didn't Like Winning
Brian Urlacher's dislike of Phil Emery is no secret. The former Bears star linebacker didn't appreciate how Emery, then the general manager, handled his contract negotiation after the 2012 season.
«It's just like, why fire the guy? And I know why they fired him, because the new GM was a weirdo and he didn't like winning, so he fired Lovie (Smith). It's frustrating because I love that franchise, so it's frustrating to see the direction it went after they fired Lovie.»
We've all felt similarly about GM Phil Emery, whose brief tenure as Chicago GM was nothing short of a disaster.
Urlacher was also very critical of Emery a few years ago during an interview with the Chicago Tribune.
"I just didn't get alongI didn't like the way he handled my situation or other situations around there with players," Urlacher said. "I didn't like the way he acted sometimes. I just didn't feel comfortable being in the building when he was around.
"I'm a huge fan of the McCaskeys. I've always said that, never quit saying that. I'm going to keep saying it. But there was one guy that I had a problem with, and he happened to be the guy that was everyone's boss.
"And I think he had more problems than just drafting, by the way. So I wouldn't just stop there with his issues. Not to beat a dead horse or anything, though."
