BREAKING: Seven-time Pro Bowl wide receiver announces retirement.
One of the most prominent wide receivers of recent times has made the decision to end his career. On Monday, A.J. Green, formerly of the Cincinnati Bengals and Arizona Cardinals, publicly declared his retirement from professional football via social media.
Green was selected fourth overall in the 2011 NFL Draft, which is considered to be one of the most talented draft classes in league history. During his first seven seasons in the NFL, he was named to the Pro Bowl seven times, helping the Bengals secure five playoff appearances and two AFC North division titles.
Unfortunately, injuries hindered his performance, causing him to miss seven games in 2018 and sit out the entire 2019 season. However, he regained his form in 2020 and recorded 47 receptions for 523 yards and two touchdowns.
Green signed with the Cardinals in 2021 and put together a productive season, with 54 receptions for 848 yards and three touchdowns, contributing to Arizona's 12-win season and playoff appearance.
In what is expected to be his final NFL season, Green caught 24 passes for 236 yards and two touchdowns. He retires with a career total of 727 receptions, 10,514 yards, and 70 touchdowns, solidifying his position as a future Hall of Famer.
