One of the most crucial aspects of building a truly successful franchise, in the long run, is the management of the salary cap. The great dynasties are always right in the sweet spot where you pay good players, but you don't overvalue other assets.

Well, here is a breakdown from Bears writer Aaron Lemming on the current Bears salary cap situation:

With the cut of Jeremiah Attaochu yesterday, the #Bears are sitting right around $23.8M in cap space. That ranks 3rd in the league.

That also doesn't count Kyler Gordon ($1.579M) or Jaquan Brisker ($1.338M) yet.

Once accounted for, they'll have around $22.5M in space.

Eventually, the practice squad & full 53-man roster will count. Even so, the #Bears are very likely to roll into the season with close to $18M.

Assuming no big moves & nothing crazy in-season, it's very likely they'll end up rolling over $15M+ into 2023.

Even better news when looking at 2023 cap space is that the #Bears will have a minimal dead cap with just Trevathan, Cohen & Attaochu (right now) accounting for just $6.325M. I'd expect another $1M or so in dead cap w/ cuts in the coming months but still, much better spot.

According to Over The Cap, the #Bears would roll into 2023 with $99.665M in cap space. That's assuming a $225M cap & not counting any rollovers from 2022. As of right now, they'd also have 46 of the "required" 51 players accounted for. Next closest team is NE w/ $68.229M.

Barring anything unexpected, the #Bears are very likely to head into the next offseason with the largest amount of cap space available. It may not even be that close when all is said & done. It also leaves them plenty of flexibility to lock down Roquan Smith at any point, too.

Also worth noting that the #Bears will have some addition cap flexibility next year with cuts. They'll have 5 players that *could* save them $4M+ (Quinn $9.763M, Jackson $7.52M & Whitehair $5.8M as examples).

They also have just 3 players set to make $10M+ in 2023.
