A month ago, it seemed McCarthy was the frontrunner, but now indications suggest that Maye is their preferred choice.»

However, with an escape route available from Jones' contract next year, the team remains open to drafting his successor.

Maye's impressive final NCAA season, where he threw for 3,608 yards and 24 touchdowns with only nine interceptions, only strengthens his case.


The urgency for a quarterback is palpable: Daniel Jones, despite five seasons to establish himself following his first-round selection in 2019, has failed to meet expectations.
