Analyst Urges Bears to Reconsider Drafting Caleb Williams in Final App

In his latest mock draft, published 32 hours before the NFL Draft, CBS Sports' Pete Prisco advocates for the Chicago Bears to select LSU's Jayden Daniels as the first overall pick, over the favored USC quarterback Caleb Williams.

Prisco praises Daniels, describing him as "the most-improved player I've ever seen," highlighting his ability to run and throw despite a slighter build. He acknowledges some criticisms, such as Daniels leaving the pocket prematurely, but compares his dynamic playstyle to Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens.

Despite widespread expectations and DraftKings Sportsbook's heavy odds favoring Williams at -20000, Prisco maintains that Daniels, listed at +2500, is his non-predictive choice for the top pick. He cites agreement from some NFL coaches and scouts, as well as analysts like ESPN's Louis Riddick and Dan Orlovsky, who prefer Daniels over Williams.

Prisco firmly believes Daniels "will be the best quarterback in this class," critiquing Williams for holding the ball too long and needing to refine his game. He also noted feedback Daniels received during pre-draft interviews about being more cautious with in-game hits.


Amid discussions, Bears GM Ryan Poles expressed no concerns about Williams' off-field interests and commitment, contrasting with the high regard for Daniels' passion for football. Adding intrigue, Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer hinted that the Washington Commanders would likely pick Daniels second, possibly thanking the Bears later for the opportunity.
