Caleb Williams Calm Amid Bears' Rookie Contract Negotiations

Caleb Williams heads into the final week of the Bears' offseason program without a rookie contract, yet he remains unfazed by the situation as the No. 1 overall pick. Although he does not have an NFLPA-certified agent, a team of lawyers is handling negotiations with general manager Ryan Poles.
Williams is confident the deal will be finalized, allowing him to focus on the Bears' developmental program without distraction. Following the conclusion of mandatory minicamp at Halas Hall last Thursday, he emphasized that his concentration has been solely on the field during OTAs, rookie camp, and minicamp.
«I'm not dealing with that,» Williams commented regarding his contract. «Poles and my team have been handling negotiations. I have a team of lawyers for that, so I can stay focused on my work and give my best effort every day.»
Currently, 13 first-round picks, including Williams and wide receiver Rome Odunze (drafted at No. 9), have yet to sign contracts. Among first-round quarterbacks, only Drake Maye and Bo Nix have finalized deals. Williams has spent the spring learning offensive coordinator Shane Waldron's system and adjusting to the speed of NFL defenses.
Once the offseason program wraps up this Wednesday, Williams and his team will turn their attention to finalizing the expected $39.4 million four-year deal, which includes a $25.5 million signing bonus and a fifth-year club option for the 2028 season. Delays in rookie contracts are common, and Williams is expected to be ready for the Bears' training camp in mid-July.
