The Chicago Bears had a huge loss today when they lost defensive coordinator Vic Fangio to the Denver Broncos.
Fangio left the Bears to accept the Broncos offer to be the team's new head coach.
Immediately the search for a new defensive coordinator began and one name shot to the top of the list.
Former New York Jets head coach Todd Bowles was expected to sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as defensive coordinator, however there was a stall in negotiations when the Bears job became available.
NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that the Bears were looking to land Bowles since Matt Nagy's father coached Bowles in high school.
Well, it looks like that connection wasn't strong enough as Bowles has signed on with Tampa Bay after all.
The Bears search will continue for now...
Buccaneers just worked out off-set language on Todd Bowles' contract with the Jets, and so Tampa Bay does have the new defensive coordinator it expected to land, per @mortreport.
