As soon as Chicago Bears veteran running back was expected to take off, another lower-body injury, unfortunately, has set David Montgomery back. Heading into week 3 Montgomery was coming off a 122-yard rushing game and with a friendly matchup against the Texans, Montgomery was looking to build off that performance.

Unfortunately, once again for Montgomery, he went down with a lower-body injury. The initial replay did not appear good, Montgomery went down in pain after his leg was pinned under a lineman. Luckily enough Montgomery did enter the locker room with limited assistance.

As we saw last season once again Khalil Herbert made the most of his opportunity. Herbert ran for 157 yards on just 20 attempts and added two touchdowns to his performance. During his rookie season in 2021, Herbert started over a four-game stretch when Montgomery went down. Over these four games, Herbert ran for 344 yards rushing on 78 attempts.

Currently, in 2022, Herbert is averaging a tremendous 7.3 yards per carry. Also according to PFF's running back grades for the season Herbert is ranked third with an 81.2 overall grade. Herbert is with elite company with only Nick Chubb and Christian McCaffrey ahead of him.

If Montgomery remains out in week 4 expect Herbert to carry a heavy load, as the Bears face a porous Giants run defense that is giving up a league 8th most rushing yards.
