Courtney Cronin reported that The NFL Management Council just sent a memo to teams warning of a non-NFLPA certified agent contacting teams on Roquan Smith's behalf.

Let me remind you that Smith is in the final year of his rookie deal and requested a trade away from the Bears earlier this month after failing to get a new deal. He has not been practicing during training camp, but was activated from the physically unable to perform list last week.

«The NFLPA has informed us that a person by the name of Saint Omni, who is not an NFLPA certified agent, is contacting Clubs and indicating he is representing Roquan Smith, who is under contract to the Chicago Bears.
Mr. Omni is prohibited from negotiating Player Contracts or discussing potential trades on behalf of any NFL player or prospective player or assisting in or advising with respect to such negotiations.»

The memo from the management council reminds clubs that under Article 48 of the CBA, «Player Contracts May only be negotiated with the player, if he is acting on his own behalf, or with the player's NFLPA certified agent.»

The management council ended its memo to teams with a reminder of the league's anti-tampering policy.

«Tampering is a corrosive problem that undermines both the integrity of the game and relationships among clubs. Accordingly, in the event that tampering is found, the Competition Committee has recommended the imposition of more stringent discipline thanimposed in prior years.»

This is coming after the news broke out that "someone" was making phone calls to other NFL teams illegally while Roquan Smith was still under contract with the Bears...

More to follow in the next few days.
