OC Luke Getsy raving about his new rookie left tackle

LT Braxton Jones has been on everyone's lips at Hallas Hall so far. He is, at this moment, the leading candidate to start at left tackle in Week 1.

His size, ability, and achievements at Southern Utah resulted in an invite to the Senior Bowl and NFL Combine last winter, where he further solidified his status as a high-upside offensive lineman. He was selected in the fifth round by the Bears, their first offensive lineman selected in the draft.

This quote from Bears OC Luke Getsy discussing rookie Braxton Jones was encouraging to read (via NBC Sports Chicago's Josh Schrock):

«I think Braxton was a guy that is obviously a super athletic kid that we were excited about after spring ball. Then you get into the pads and there was no intimidation. Going against Robert Quinn your very first one-on-one pass rush, right? It's an intimidating thing. He stepped up and did a great job. He's answered the bell.»

The offensive line puzzle has been the story of Bears training camp through the first week or so. But, a week has not been enough for the Bears to find the answers they seek.

"No," Getsy said when asked if the Bears' first-string line was taking shape. "I think we're still a ways away for a lot of positions to be honest with you and that's one of them. We've flipped guys from right to left up front and we're trying to see whatever combination makes the most sense and which guys are the most flexible for us. So, we've got a lot of information still to find out."

It will be very interesting to follow as pre-season goes along.
