74 Days Until Kickoff: Legend Jimbo Covert

The summer days are long and hot in Illinois, but training camp is less than a month away and the regular season is only 74 days away for the hometown Chicago Bears. To countdown kickoff, let's have a look back at the most legendary #74 in Chicago Bears history, Jimbo Covert.

Jimbo Covert of course was the Bears legendary left tackle during the 80s and a part of the Super Winning ‘85 Bears. Covert would be the Bears first-round selection in the 1983 NFL Draft and immediately would be drafted to start his role at left tackle that he owned during his 8-year Chicago Bears career. Covert would be a consensus All-American in 1982 before entering the draft.

During his time in Chicago in the 80s, Covert would spearhead the offensive line in their league-leading rushing attack. The Bears did have the legendary Walter Payton in the backfield but they certainly had a tremendous front that featured Covert, Mark Bortz, Jay Hilgenberg, Tom Thayer, and Keith Van Horne. All of them would spend nearly their entire career as a Bear and would play at least 8 or more seasons in Navy and Orange.

Covert would not only become a Bears legend but he would be enshrined in Pro Football History, Covert is also a part of the 2020 Hall of Fame Class. Along with this Covert would earn multiple Pro Bowl and All-Pro honors but also be alert of the 1980s All-Decade team.
