26 Days Until Kickoff: 26 in Bears History

Today will officially mark 26 days until the Chicago Bears are returning to the great Football City of Chicago as they prepare for the 49ers. There are so many legends and All-Time greats that once put on navy and orange for this storied franchise.

1960s: Bennie McRae-

Bennie McRae played all but one season during his 10-year NFL career with Chicago Bears as a defensive back. McRae makes his appearance at number 77 on the 100 All-Time Chicago Bears list. McRae would have 27 interceptions as a Bear and 4 of which would be returned for a touchdown.

1980s: Matt Suhey-


If you were to replay any game from the 80s for the Bears besides the notorious defense you could guarantee two things, the great Walter Payton in the backfield and a man named Matt Suhey in #26 leading the way. Suhey was the lead blocker for the Bears in the 80s and also was one of Payton's closest friends. Despite being the team's fullback Suhey still achieved nearly 3,000 career rushing yards and 20 TDs in his 9-year career, but he was primarily known to be a fan favorite and the team's lead blocker.


2010s: Tim Jennings-

Tim Jennings would join the Bears in 2010 and would compliment the Bears legend Charles «Peanut» Tillman on the opposite side of the field. Jennings wasn't the punch-out king like Tillman but Jennings still was a legitimate cornerback for the Bears. In his 5 seasons with the team, Jennings would record 16 interceptions, with the most being on 2012 when he recorded a league-leading 9 interceptions and finished 3rd in the league with 21 passes defended. In his stint with the Bears, Jennings would earn 2 pro bowl nominations and would be on the 2nd team All-Pro roster with fellow teammate Charles Tillman in 2012. Many may recall the heartbreaking events of the end of the 2012 season for the Bears. The Bears got off to a 7-1 recorded and looked to be Super Bowl contenders before hitting a midseason slump. The Bears would finish with a 10-6 record but the Minnesota Vikings upset the Green Bay Packers in week 17 also finishing 10-6 knocking the Bears out of a wild card spot. The Bears would go on to fire Head Coach Lovie Smith the following day.
